Addiction Therapy
Addiction is a cunning and baffling disease. Whether you are dealing with a behavioral addiction (sex, food, intimacy anorexia, etc.) or a substance addiction (alcohol, narcotics, etc.), understanding the motivation behind the behavior and developing a healthy support system are paramount to recovery. Denial is often a major obstacle in beginning and sticking with treatment. Having a trained clinician who can challenge and assist you in breaking through denial can make all of the difference. If you are questioning if you might have an addiction, consider the following symptoms and behaviors. If you answer yes to some of the questions below, it might be time to seek help.
Addiction symptoms and behaviors include, among others:
- Feeling the need to act out regularly, which can be daily or multiple times a day
- Having intense urges for acting out
- Over time, needing more of the acting out behavior to get the same effect (numbing, high, escape, etc.)
- Making certain that you maintain a source, time, or supply for acting out
- Not meeting obligations and responsibilities at work, school, or home
- Doing things you wouldn’t normally do when acting out or in order to act out (i.e. doing behaviors outside of your value system)
- Focusing more and more time and energy on acting out
- Experiencing withdrawal symptoms when not acting out
- Failed attempts to quit acting out
If you can relate to any of the above symptoms or behaviors, it may be time to consider addiction therapy. Call today or book an appointment online so we can partner together and begin the process of helping you get to the root of your acting out behavior.
